Choices in Ornamental Ceilings & Fans

Click here for a list of suppliers of ornamental ceilings and fans

Most decorators are still prisoners of one of the great cliches of the 20th century: the white ceiling. Usually, ceilings end up as flat, white-painted surfaces merely out of habit. In the 19th century, however, designers felt that ceilings were the most important surface because it can be seen without any obstructions. As a result, the ceiling was often more highly ornamented than the walls.

With today's interest in historically inspired design, companies are again producing the elements needed to create decorative ceilings. In the online list noted here, you'll find sources for tin ceilings, ornamental plaster ceilings, coffered wood ceilings, decorative polymer panels and art glass ceiling domes -- plus ceiling fans that are both functional and highly ornamental.
